BROTHER WILLIAM TROUPE

This month’s spotlight shines very brightly on one of our longtime members, William Troupe. Bill was born on September 5, 1937 in Manhattan. His family was one of the first tenants of the Harlem River Projects. Bill is a graduate of Newtown High School in Queens, New York. He joined the U.S. Army in1960 serving in Frankfurt, Germany and was honorably discharged in1962.

Bill joined the Transit Police Department on May 3, 1965. He served in Districts 33, 22, Personnel Services Unit and the Applicant Investigation Unit. In between his assignments Bill managed to attend John Jay College and proudly graduated in 1972 with a Bachelors Degree. After more than 21 years of service, Bill retired in October 1986. When asked what was he most proud of during his long law enforcement career, Bill, without hesitation, said that his time in the Applicant Investigation Unit was the most rewarding segment of his service. He said that nothing could be more rewarding than assisting candidates overcome obstacles in becoming police officers.

Following his retirement from the Transit Police Bill went to work for the Internal Revenue Service, working in the Unreported Income Unit for 17 years.

Bill has been married to his wife Lois for 40 years an has two daughters and two grandchildren. While Bill and Lois still reside in Queens they divide their time between Queens and Newport News, Virginia. Bill can be reached via email at WDT1937@aol.com.
