BROTHER VAUGHN BANKS

The Retired Guardians Fraternal Association is extremely proud to place Brother Vaughn Banks squarely in the beam of our November 2004 Spotlight.

Vaughn was born on August 7, 1933 in Galveston, Texas. His family moved to New York while Vaughn was attending George W. Carver High School so he graduated high school, like so many other of our members, at Boys High in Brooklyn, New York. Vaughn joined the US. Air Force in 1952 and served during the Korean War. He was discharged honorably from active duty in 1956 but remained in the active reserves. He served as a flying radio operator until 1966.

Vaughn joined the Transit Police Department on May 3, 1965. He served the vast majority of his Transit Police career in District 30. Following the merge in 1995, Vaughn remained in District 30 of the Transit Bureau. He retired in 1997 with 32 years of service. When asked of what he was most proud during his long career, Vaughn stated that he was very proud of his accomplishments as Auxiliary Police Coordinator, teaching the members of the Auxiliary Police how to patrol the subway system.

Vaughn has been married to his wife Vivian for 44 years and has 3 children, Vaughn Jr., Sharon and Jonathan and 3 granddaughter’s, ages 14, 6 and 3. Vaughn and Vivian still reside in Brooklyn and can be reached by E-mail at shafalls@aol.com
