BROTHER THOMAS BOYD

This month’s ‘Spotlight’ focuses on one of the Retired Guardians more loyal members, Thomas Boyd. Whenever there is a membership meeting, a reunion, a Christmas party, a picnic, or any other planned organization event, it is more than likely that you will see Tom there. Tom is steadfast in his support of the Retired Guardians efforts and is a member of the organization’s Century Club.

Tom was born on August 7, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. He is another of our long list of members who graduated from Brooklyn’s Boys High School. He attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina for 2 1/2 years. Tom served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965, mainly at Fort Polk in Louisiana. He became a NYC Transit Police officer in July 1968, and worked in Districts 35 and 32, CWTF, Detective Division (1985) in Districts 33 and 20. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal as well as numerous meritorious certificates. Tom was assigned to the 62nd Precinct when he retired in September 1997, in the rank of Detective 3rd Grade. He points to his long career as a police officer as his proudest achievement.

Tom has been married to his wife Barbara for forty years. He has one son, and he and Barbara are the proud grandparents of one year old twins (a boy and a girl). He resides in Springfield Gardens, New York.
