We proudly place Brother Reginald Walker in the beam of our very first Spotlight for 2005.
Reggie was born on August 7, 1941 in New York City. He is a graduate of Long Island City High School. Reggie joined the US Army in 1959 and served the majority of his
military career in Germany with duty at the Berlin Wall. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Reggie became a member of the Transit Police Department in November 1967. He served in Districts 1, 5, CWPS and CCU. He
retired in 1988 after 21 years. While on the job Reggie had the distinction of singing our National Anthem at many of the official department ceremonies, a task he assumed after another of our members, Cliff Rice,
retired. He also
attended and graduated from John Jay College with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. When asked of what he was most proud during his law enforcement career, without hesitation, Reggie stated “my ability to work the system”.
Following retirement Reggie resumed his singing career full time. While a member of the department, most of his fellow officers did not know that while in high school, he
sang with a group called “the Delroys” who had the hit record “Bermuda Shorts”. From 1988 to 1996 Reggie traveled and performed with the Delroys at various Oldie Shows. The Delroys disbanded in 1996 but 5 years
later, Reggie had the opportunity in join another famous singing group, The Del Vikings, where he still performs as their “lead vocalist”
Reggie has one daughter, Tammy, and a granddaughter, who live in Wilmington, North Carolina. He still resides in Queens, New York and invites our members and friends to
come out and say “hello”, whenever they see the Del Vikings are scheduled to perform.
