This month the 'Spotlight' shines upon an individual who was, and still is, known for his seemingly constant joviality and his unique voice. To most of  us, those attributes can only mean one person, Leroy Hill.

 Leroy Hill was born June 18, 1925, in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a graduate of Dewitt Clinton High School in New York City. Joining the U.S.  Marine Corps in 1943, he served 22 months in the Pacific during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Since their marriage in 1947, Leroy and  Margo have been a couple for the past 55 years. This union has produced 3  children, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

 Leroy became a Transit Police Officer in 1955, retiring in  1980 with the rank of Sergeant. He worked in Districts 2 and 9, was a patrol sergeant in Districts 30, 32 and 33, and was an investigating sergeant in the  Recruit Investigations Unit. Leroy was very active as a member of the  Cerberean Society, receiving that organization's 'Service Award' in 1979. He had served on numerous committees for the Cerbereans over the years, most  memorably as the Chairman of the Entertainment Committee during the Bob  Lawrence administration. His honors continued when in 1996, he was named by the Retired Transit Guardians as their ' Man of the Year '.

 In 1968, Leroy became a founding member of a travel club, known to us all as ' Par-T-7 '. For 25 years, this very popular group  sponsored annual dance at the Cordon Bleu, in Queens, New York, affairs that were enthusiastically attended by many of present Retired Transit Guardians members. Proceeds of those affairs went towards travel expenses of the Par-T- 7 members, who, over the years, have visited 25 different countries, in 4 continents, 13 Islands, 9 Cruises and 1 Train trip.
