The Retired Transit Guardians have many members who are unable to attend the monthly meetings due to their having left the State of New York. This month’s ‘Spotlight’ shines on one such individual, Brother JAMES TAYLOR. “Big Jim” was born June 16, 1937, in Queens, New York. He attended both Flushing High School and Brooklyn Technical High School, graduating from Bklyn Tech in 1955, specializing in electronics. He became a member of the New York City Transit Police department on May 3, 1965. He worked in Districts #1, #20, #21, #22 and the Court Division, earning 2 commendations (1-Exceptional Duty, 1 Meritorious). He retired on December 6, 1986. Jim was in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1959. Most of his service was performed at Warner/Robbins AFB, in Macon Georgia. He joined the Army National Guard as an E4 and retired from the Guard some 28 years later in the rank of Chief Warrant Officer (CWO-2). Jim is very proud of both his military and Transit Police service. He left New York in 1989, and secured a position as Assistant Chief of Police at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. After retiring from that position, he recently became the Security Manager at the same location. So, after 41 years of police work, ‘Big Jim” is still doing it! Jim has been married over 30 years to his wife, Barbara, has 5 children and 3 grandchildren and lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He can be reached via e-mail at james4693@cox.net . |
