The ‘Spotlight’ does not limit itself to only those who had illustrious careers as Transit Police Officers, or those who served as officers in the Cerberean Society or Retired Transit
Guardian Association. The ‘Spotlight’ casts it’s beam on any member in good standing in the Retired Guardians Fraternal Association. We are honored to have Brother Huxley Smith in our June 2005 Spotlight.
Huxley, also affectionately known as “Smitty”, was born September 24, 1941, in Kingston Jamaica. He came to the United States as a nine year old in 1950, and became an
American Citizen. He is a graduate of the NYC High School of Printing. Huxley was a member of the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964, with the bulk of his service spent in Rome, New York. He joined the
Transit Police Department in 1966 and had the distinction of serving his entire 21 year career in District 32, where he was the well-known ‘SP’ man. He also instructed the District PAA’s in their duties, receiving a
‘Letter of Commendation’ for his efforts. Huxley retired from the TPD in 1987.
When asked what he considers his greatest accomplishment, Huxley cites his efforts in his church, Saint Peters Episcopal of Rosedale, New York. His duties include the instructing of
the acolytes, and assisting the officiating priest during church services. Huxley enjoys a forty year marriage to his wife Dorothy, a union blessed with three daughters. He resides in Laurelton, New York
