A brother who recently relocated, is the subject of our 50th ‘Spotlight’.
Brother GEORGE YOUNG was born August 8, 1940, in New York City. He is a graduate of Teaneck High School; Teaneck, New Jersey. He attended Morgan State University,
Baltimore, Maryland for three years, the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado for one year and New York Tech, in New York for one year. George was in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. The bulk of his
service was spent at Whellus Air Force Base, in Libya, North Africa.
George became a member of the New York City Transit Police Department in December 1968 and worked in Districts # 32 and # 33. He retired in the rank of sergeant in 1989.
George has always been a very active Retired Guardian and can be found in attendance at the monthly meetings, cookouts, Christmas banquets and the Retired Law Enforcement reunions. He served as the retired Guardians
Chairman of the Board for two years and as the Vice President for six years. The seemingly tireless George was named the organization’s ‘Man of the Year’ in 2003, a well deserved honor.
George lists as his hobbies, fishing, photography and learning how to play golf. He is very proud of his family and of his involvement in the Retired Guardians through
the years. George has been married to Carrie for forty-one years, and they have been blessed with two children and three grandchildren. He now resides in Matthews, North Carolina and can be reached via e-mail at fishingfour@hotmail.com
