BROTHER GENERAL THOMAS

This month the ‘Spotlight’ shines its beam on another Retired Guardians member who ‘went back home’ after retiring. Brother GENERAL THOMAS. The ‘General’ was born March 8, 1932, in Aiken, South Carolina. He is a graduate of the Schofield Normal Industrial High School in Aiken, South Carolina. He then attended South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, S.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

General served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1962. His military career was spent on a radar picket ship, which was our ‘first line of defense’ sailing up and down the east coast of the United States. After his military service, he was a teacher at The Children’s Village, in Dobb’s Ferry, New York. General became a member of the Transit Police Department in June 1966. He worked in Districts #2, #3, #20 and #22, retiring in July 1986.

General is a very soft-spoken person. He was born and raised in the South during some harsh times, and in his words “is most proud of making his way through a hostile world”. He is married to Rosetta, has two children and one grandson. General attends the annual Law Enforcement reunions and lives in his ancestral home in Aiken, South Carolina.
