This month the beam of our 'Spotlight' falls on EUGENE ROBINSON. Gene was born on August 26, 1943, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he attended West Philadelphia High
School. He was awarded an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis College, and has nine months of course work left for an MBA degree. Gene joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1960 and served the
majority of his military duty in the Far East. He was honorably discharged in 1964.
Gene became a member of the Transit Police Department in December 1965, and worked in Districts #1, #4, #33, CSPS, Operations Unit,
Recruitment and Retention Unit and AIU. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1980. Gene was chosen to attend the National FBI Academy in Quantico Virginia and he served as the first Community Affairs and Crime
Prevention Officer in the District #33 area. During his police career he was awarded 14 commendations. Gene is most proud of his efforts in the Applicant Investigations Unit, as well as in the Recruitment and
Retention Unit for his assistance to the female and minority candidates. Gene served the Cerberean Society as a District Delegate, Executive Secretary (Maurice Administration) and Chairman of the Board (Beck
Administration). Gene retired in April, 1986.
After retirement, Gene worked for Trans World Airlines (TWA) for seven years, during which time he relocated to Los Angeles, California. Presently, he is the Security
Director at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In late 2000, Gene developed our website which he still maintains. In 2001 he was presented with the Retired Transit Guardians ' Man of the Year '
award for his outstanding efforts with the website.
Gene is divorced, has one daughter, and two grandchildren. He lives in Palmdale, California, and can be reached at his E-mail address, stan3248@juno.com .
