BROTHER CALVIN GLASS

A brother who began attending our meetings last year, and who attended the reunion in Virginia Beach, is this month's Spotlight honoree. He is CALVIN GLASS. Calvin was born April 3, 1939, in Senoia, Georgia. He is another of our graduates of Boys High School in Brooklyn, and he attended St. Johns University where he attained a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Masters degree in Business Administration. Not only did he achieve academically, Calvin was the captain of the track team, winning numerous medals for the high jump, long jump and 60 yard dash in IC4A and NCAA competition.

Calvin joined the Transit Police Department January 14, 1963. Shortly thereafter, he was performing military duties with the US Army, dividing his time between Fort Huachuca, Arizona, and Fort Carson, Colorado. He was honorably discharged in 1965, and returned to the Transit Police Department. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1966, the youngest (age 26) to attain that rank in the Department's history at that time. Calvin's entire career was spent in patrol commands, working in Districts #7, #2, #11, #6, #1, #32, #33 and #22. Calvin was promoted to Lieutenant in 1970, and retired in that rank in 1984. Calvin is a divorced father of three children, and has two grandchildren. His interests include fishing, playing the Wall Street 'game', trips to Atlantic City, and chess.
